Golf Course/
St Andrews Jubilee

The Jubilee Course plays 6,742 yards from the medal tees and has two other sets of tees, which play up to 5,956 yards. The course is extremely popular for tournaments and some of the most prestigious in Scotland are held there.

The greens are massive, the bunkering defines penal and the fairways are ultra-thin. Out of bounds comes into play on more than half the holes and several tee shots are blind. When all is said and done, Jubilee is one of the most difficult tests of golf in Fife.

The Course was laid out in 1897 by John Angus, who was paid less than 180 pounds to turn the sliver of land between The New Course and the sea into a 12-hole links. The name of the course came to be when in less than two months Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee was hosted there.

In 1902, Jubilee was expanded to 18 holes, a remarkable feat since the parcel of land it occupies appears too narrow to accommodate one fairway, much less two side by side (one running out and one running back). Further renovations to the course were made in 1938-1946 by former Open champion Willie Auchterlonie.

The final version was completed in 1988 by Donald Steel. These newest improvements include elevated tee boxes affording vistas of the firth and town and exposing tee shots to even more of the wind.
