Troon Lochgreen
Troon Lochgreen has several holes that are reminiscent of its royal neighbour. The three courses of Lochgreen, Darley and Fullarton play alongside Royal Troon, Portland and Barassie to form a group of six courses that totally surround the famous golfing town of Troon.
Although Lochgreen is predominately a links type course, the layout is truly varied, with one stretch - known as the “Dovecot Section” - providing holes of a more parkland type character.
Troon Lochgreen is a par 74 course at 6, 819-yards. It's an upland links golf course that will test you all the way. Opening with a 473-yard par four it will either get your round up and running or put you right on the back foot. Either way, it's a memorable start.
The course has several holes that are reminiscent of its royal neighbour and one hole in particular - the 5th - would do justice to any championship test.
The dogleg 16th hole sweeps to the right with punishing gorse and pines to negotiate and a fore green which is well guarded by a stand of strategically placed bunkers.Indeed, Lochgreen has been used an Open Championship qualifying course where, in 1962, Jack Nicklaus qualified for his first Open at Royal Troon.
